The College of Education offers three doctoral degrees: PhD in Education (with options), EdD in Education (with options), and PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision.
The PhD in Education prepares recipients to assume tenure track positions at a university and to accept professional responsibilities that focus heavily on teaching and research. Scholarly interests for new students are matched with faculty expertise and research agendas to facilitate mentorship opportunities and to assist in engaging students in academic experiences throughout their programs. Students are required to meet a four-semester residency component, providing opportunities for immersion in the college community with a focus on scholarly efforts.

The focus for the college’s EdD degree is to prepare working professionals for leadership in their chosen career fields. Decisions about admissions are made at the departmental level, with each program area having greater latitude to tailor the program and the selection process to the varied professional requirements. The Counselor Education Ph.D. program is CACREP accredited. The coursework and other scholarly opportunities prepare professionals for positions as faculty in Counselor Education departments (Higher Education). The program provides personalized, developmentally oriented coursework emphasizing the integration of theory and experiential learning to prepare graduates to meet the unique challenges within the field.
