College of Education, Laramie County School District 1 agreement signed |
 |
The University of Wyoming College of Education is pleased to announce the recent signing of an agreement with Laramie County School District 1 to partner in the senior year preparation of preservice teachers for elementary and secondary settings.
While there is a long history of student teacher placements in LCSD 1, this agreement provides for the college to hire a half-time facilitator who will serve as the onsite liaison and support for mentor teachers, district administration, and student teachers. The facilitator will also provide a direct communication link to UW faculty and administration. The agreement structures a process for district and college personnel to make collaborative decisions about pairing preservice teachers with inservice mentor teachers while allowing flexibility for the district to determine the most appropriate school sites. The term of the agreement is Aug. 1, 2008, through July 31, 2012.
A committee is being formed now to complete the hire of the Facilitator to begin liaison work this spring. All parties are excited by this renewed commitment to a collaborative partnership for the preparation of new teachers which is strengthened through both formal teacher preparation and field experiences with highly qualified inservice teachers. For additional information, please contact Dr. Judith Ellsworth, director of teacher education at UW.
