UW College of Education graduates who are first-year teachers (2008-09), employed in a Wyoming school district, have a terrific professional development opportunity, thanks to a generous alumna.
The Lola B. Newcomb Beginning Teacher Support Grant allows beginning teachers to select a mentoring program to continue to build the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the classroom. The accompanying materials provide suggestions of programs that may be submitted for funding. Each grant is valued at $1,000.
Recipients of the 2009 Lola B. Newcomb Beginning Teacher Support Grant will be asked to share their experiences with current students and faculty, so that everyone may benefit from your mentoring experience. To that end, we have set aside Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, as a day for presentations and sharing on campus. Grant recipients must be available to visit the Laramie campus on that day.
