Master's candidates in the UW Counselor Education Department shared their experiences and knowledge of the field at March 25 poster session highlighting the work leading up to their degrees.

Faculty members, peers, and other members of the college and campus communities queried students about their posters and their internship experiences. Featured below are some of the poster presenters in attendance.

Gogol Jennifer Gogol, left, describes her work in the College of Education Academic Success Program to doctoral student Konja Klepper. Gogol incorporated wellness components into her work with student clients, recognizing that addressing the needs of the whole person increases one's potential for stress management and other factors enhancing academic progress.
Bevan Molly Bevan conducted a counseling needs assessment during her internship at Cheyenne East High School. She then used the results of that assessment to help counseling staff create support groups. Bevan led groups for students dealing with issues related to military life and divorce. She co-led other groups with school staff.
Cannon Brenda Cannon, left, used Photovoice to provide a representation of her internship experience at a local private practice. Cannon used photography to illustrate both her theory of counseling practice and her approach to wellness as a counselor providing those services. Shown with Brenda is Michael Morgan, counselor education faculty member.
Simpson Tammy Simpson's poster described how she has applied Solution Focus Theory to the school setting. Simpson developed expertise in that counseling approach during an internship with Laramie County School  District 1, working with summer school students as well as students at East and Triumph High Schools.
Zimry Christopher Zimny's scholarly interests focus on retaining more college freshmen and increasing the percentage of students who graduate within six years of entry. He explored how student involvement -- e.g., participation in student organzations -- contribute to that process. His project includes recommendations for increasing student engagement.
