Sept. 21 Public Talk Highlights First Ellbogen Symposium

Patricia Wasley

   Educator and author Patricia Wasley presents a free public talk at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Crane-Hill Cafeteria on the University of Wyoming campus.
   Her presentation is part of the inaugural John P. "Jack" Ellbogen Teaching and Learning Symposium at UW.
    Wasley's talk, titled "Teaching in America: An Incoherent System," highlights the first symposium, sponsored by the UW College of Education and funded by an endowment from the John P.  "Jack" Ellbogen Foundation.
    Wasley is dean of the University of Washington College of Education. A former dean of the Graduate School of Education at Bank Street College in New York City, Wasley also worked as a researcher for the Puget Sound Educational Consortium, the Coalition of Essential Schools, and the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University. Her published books include Stirring the Chalk dust (1994) and Teachers Who Lead (1991). Wasley also coauthored Kids and School Reform (1997) with Robert Hampel and Richard Clark.
   Special guests at this year's symposium are recipients of the Wyoming Teacher of the Year Award, 1964-2007, and the state's 74 National Board Certification for Teaching recipients. Also invited to the two-day event are members of Wyoming's education community, College of Education faculty and graduate students.
