Kevin Roxas joins the College of Education faculty this fall as an assistant professor of educational studies. He holds a PhD in curriculum, teaching, and educational policy from Michigan State University. Roxas' classroom responsibilities include teaching sections of EDST 2480, "Diversity and the Politics of Schooling." Kevin's research interests include education of immigrant and refugee children, urban education, the social contexts of education, and the sociology of education.
"My family and I decided to come to the University of Wyoming for a number of wonderful reasons," Roxas says. "The faculty and staff in the Department of Educational Studies and, more broadly, in the College of Education are experts in the field of education and engaged in meaningful research and outreach locally, nationally, and internationally. Being a part of the important work in schools conducted by the UWYO COE faculty was one of the primary draws of coming out West."
"Another draw was the friendliness and support of all the people we've met at the University of Wyoming and in the Laramie community," he adds. "We've been warmly welcomed and made to feel at home by everyone we have met. Finally, we were drawn to Wyoming by the family-friendly atmosphere and abundance of things to do outdoors. The parts of Wyoming that we have seen so far have been spectacular and we can't wait to see more of the state!"
